Far more than just a collaboration tool

Many companies currently have Microsoft 365 on their agenda. Formerly known as Office 365, Microsoft 365 now combines all Office applications under the name Microsoft 365. Office 365 Enterprise subscriptions are excluded from this. For existing users, however, the name change will not affect the scope of services or pricing.

Which applications are included in Microsoft 365?

Microsoft 365 contains a large number of apps that users need for their working environment:

The basic programs - Excel, Word and PowerPoint

The core programs from Office 365 have been transferred to Microsoft 365. Excel as a spreadsheet, Word as a word processor and PowerPoint as a presentation solution are provided as a cloud or desktop version.

Cooperation - Teams

As the successor to Skype for Business, Teams offers companies the opportunity to work even more closely with groups and colleagues. Teams offers communication options such as chats, video calls or holding conferences and can be expanded via apps and workflows.

Keeping an overview - Outlook

Outlook gives users an overview of their e-mails and contacts, allows them to assign tasks and use the calendar function.

The digital notebook - OneNote

Notes are recorded digitally here. Entries can be written, searched for and shared. Various file types can also be integrated.

The cloud storage - OneDrive

With OneDrive, users can store, access and share their data from any location. As this happens in real time, it is ideal for use in teamwork.

The mobile intranet - SharePoint

Knowledge and content can be searched for and shared company-wide in SharePoint. Defined workflows, processes and apps thus support automated work in the mobile intranet.

Social network in the company - Yammer

Yammer offers location-independent networking for the workforce. Communities can be created here and exchanges between employees are encouraged.

The structure of databases - Access

Access enables the creation of databases. Tables, queries, forms and reports are created and processed here.

Optimal marketing - Publisher

The Publisher enables the creation of flyers, brochures and other advertising materials. Email headlines and product presentations can also be created - various design sets are available.

What is Microsoft 365?

Microsoft 365 is a combination of the familiar Office apps under one name. This includes applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. The Windows 10 operating system is also integrated into Microsoft 365. The application also includes Microsoft Teams, which makes working in companies easier, and One Drive cloud storage of one TB. Microsoft 365 can be installed and used on conventional PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones - allowing users to work and act flexibly.

What features & benefits does Microsoft 365 offer?

Microsoft 365 offers the advantage that the user is no longer tied to a conventional workstation. Users can access, edit and distribute their data from any location, provided they have Internet access. Microsoft 365 responds to the needs of users and the subscription can be adjusted on a monthly basis. The number of licenses can be changed on a monthly basis, so that only the real need for licenses is covered. Subscriptions are not limited to one end device and users can use Microsoft 365 on a wide variety of end devices.

Companies rely on a stable platform - Microsoft offers 99.9% reliability, which can also be financially secured with a service level agreement. With Microsoft 365, all users always work with the latest versions of the Office packages and are therefore all on the same technical level.

The use of Microsoft 365 also offers financial advantages. A SaaS solution does not require the company to have its own application infrastructure and this relieves the burden on internal IT staff in the long term. The application is therefore managed exclusively in an administrator portal. This starting position saves the company server investments, employee resources and increases liquidity.

Why was the name of Office 365 changed to Microsoft 365?

By renaming Office 365 to Microsoft 365, Microsoft wants to make a clear distinction between the cloud services and the conventional Office suites. The distinction between corporate and private users should also be made clearer. Microsoft 365 also includes Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise Mobility & Security. The name change has no impact on the price offered and all familiar functionalities have been retained.
